Beads, Beads, and More Beads...

That is what's on my mind as I gear up in preparation for the 2008 Bal Masque.  This year the Art Assocation of Harrisburg will host Mardi Gras, Harrisburg style.  The Bal Masque will take place on Saturday, February 2nd at the Appalachian Brewing Company at 7 p.m.  The Bal has been around for over 60 years and has been a highlight in the downtown area.  This is truly an event you won't want to miss... so start planning now as costumes are encouraged and if you still don't have tickets, call the Art Association (236-1432) and help make this year's Bal a success!  Visit www.ArtAssocOfHbg.com for more details.

WOW! DOSHI is a must see art showcase located in the Susquehanna Art Museum (301 Market Street, Downtown Harrisburg, PA). The artwork was created by local artist. The showcase features a variety of styles of artwork including oil on canvas, stoneware, mixed media collage, Raku Pottery and many, many more! The showcase is colorful and thought provoking to keep you entertained for hours. Did I mention DOSHI is free and open to the public thanks to a grant from the Wachovia Bank!? Time to Celebrate!

We're just two weeks away from The 9th Annual Black History Gala " A Celebration of Unity".  This year's theme highlights the unity of purpose that has advanced African American ideals, creativity and culture in our society. All of the proceeds from this event benefit "The Black History Enrichment Series."  The Hilton Harrisburg will certainly be bustling on Saturday, February 2nd as the Gala kicks off at 6:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 7:30 p.m.  For more information the Gala as well as "The Black History Enrichment series, visit www.harrisburgevents.com or contact the Parks and Recreation Department at 255-3020.

Plains, Trains & Automobiles

Well, not quite, but close enough.  On Wednesday, January 23rd the Auto & Boat Show will ride into town and set up shop at the Farm Show Complex until Sunday, January 27th.  Attendees can check out hundreds of cars, trucks, SUVs and personal watercraft, even sit behind the wheel and look under the hood.  Of course the crowd favorite is the cars of the future and this year will be no exception, you'll have the opportunity to see the Suzuki Reggaeton, IPD Volvo C30 and Chevrolet Camaro.  For more information, visit www.motortrendautoshows.com.
